A Musing Bean

Dell's Website

I don't understand how Dell, the poster-child for direct PC selling, can have such a terrible website.

A friend recently mentioned that he ordered a Dell Inspiron 14 Ultrabook, and I wanted to find out more about it. So I visited dell.com, and tried to find their top of the line laptop. I clicked on Work, selected laptops, then checked the 11”-14" box, and was presented with... a 7 pages list. Uh, fuggedaboutit.

Tried clicking on the “Laptops & Ultrabooks" link from the homepage. Couldn't find it there either. Even when I clicked on a random laptop, the only prominent thing is the price. The message I get is “here's the place to by a cheap computer”.

As far as I know, the only way to learn about a Dell PC is through their website. You can't go test them out in stores. Why is it so difficult to find anything? Why isn't there a simple page that tells you about all the features of their best products? Why aren't there in-depth video reviews?

I didn’t set out to bash Dell. Sure, they are going through a big re-org, but I don't get how everyone isn't up-in-arms over how bad the site has become. It seems like a relatively simple and cheap thing to fix.
